By Jean-Louis Petrod on June 4, 2013

In a fortnight, the CEO of BlackBerry, Thorsten Heins announced the upcoming client messaging, BlackBerry Messenger on Android and iOS. With 10 billion messages currently every day traded might not specified to the service to register growth, as soon as it will be cross-platform. Good news for users who will have access to a new messaging solution, even if all of this leaves a little doubtful about the sales of the Canadian terminals.

Which produce a very high expectations. And that is where the problem lies, because if the final version of BlackBerry Messenger for Android and iOS application is not provided before this summer, several Web sites already offer the possibility to download a beta version. False Beta absolutely to avoid, as far as it is full of viruses.

Facebook Messenger VOIP calling expands outside of Canada

Facebook Messenger

Unlike when it enabled the new Chat Heads feature with an update via the Play Store, Facebook has silently pushed out a feature to its Messenger app today to enable free VOIP calling. If you'll recall back to the beginning of March, the same happened to iOS users and Android users in Canada, but now we're looking at expanded availability in the U.S. and several more countries as well. The calls are of course completely free, and work between two Facebook users over data rather than the carrier's voice networks.

To check and see if you have the option available, tap into an ongoing chat and hit the "i" button in the top right corner. You should then see a simple "Free Call" button. It isn't the most elegant solution, but as a first release we're not going to complain much. Are you seeing the feature enabled in your own Messenger app? Let us know in the comments below.

Chat heads go live on Facebook Messenger as we await Facebook Home

Facebook Messanger

Facebook this morning has rolled out an update to its Facebook Messenger app -- and "chat heads" are now live! These are the little persistent notifications that you get when someone messages you. Tap it to open and reply. You can move it around on the screen, but it'll remain docked to an edge. To get rid of it, just press, hold and toss to the bottom of the screen.

If you use Facebook Messenger but hate chat heads, there's an option in the settings to turn them off when you're using other apps, so they won't just float on your screen.

The Facebook application itself also has gotten an update this morning, in preparation for Facebook Home. (Some bugs were also squashed, according to the new changelog.)

We're expecting Facebook Home (the launcher) to go live anytime now.
