HTC One Unlocked and Developer Edition handsets getting Kit Kat

The next round of Kit Kat updates has begun. This time, according to details coming from the @HTCUSA Twitter account, the Android 4.4 rollout has begun for Unlocked and Developer Editions of the HTC One. With the Google Play edition having gotten the Kit Kat update last week, this sort of rounds things out for the special editions.

Those carrying either an Unlocked or Developer Edition HTC One should be on the lookout for an update notification. And furthermore, once that arrives, follow the prompts and begin enjoying the goodies that come along with Kit Kat. Aside from bumping the handset to Android 4.4, this update is also going to boost Sense to v5.5.

Otherwise, looking back to earlier in the month, we saw HTC offer a bit of detail on when some of the US carrier branded models could expect a similar update. HTC didn’t offer details for each and every carrier, however they did say the North American handsets would get Android 4.4 Kit Kat and Sense 5.5 by the “end of January.”

HTC did mention Verizon Wireless specifically though. And in this case, it looks like those users can expect a two-step process with the first update being for compatibility. From that point, it looks like the actual Android OS update will be arriving in December.

Bottom line here, while every model One has yet to be updated, it does appear HTC is making some progress. And if nothing else, they do appear to be keeping users informed thus far.

How to develop Android apps: Getting Started

In this article, I will give an introduction on How to develop Android applications. Not go into many technical details, but rather give a summary of the approaches that you should consider before you begin.

Smartphones are taking the world by storm. In may 2012 a story appeared that you indicated that in Europe, more than 50% of all new mobile phones sold were smartphones. In 2011 the sales figures in the world of Android phones exceeded those of the iPhone, the phone that started the "revolution of smartphone".

With the growing number of Android phones, the number of applications available (small programs designed to be used in these devices) has also grown explosively. In addition to mobile phones, other devices such as tablets that run on the Android operating system are also gaining popularity. The consequence of all this is that there is a growing need for Android applications.

Google Play Store (formerly Android Market) is growing at an enormous pace: there are now more than 500,000 applications available. These are very different: utility applications such as text messengers, task managers and e-mail clients, but also a lot of games. The most popular applications are being downloaded millions of times. Other interesting categories are applications that improve business. Examples of these are applications that allow customers to purchase products right from their mobile phone or applications that provide the location of a branch office of the company in the vicinity of the user.

The growing popularity of mobile application gives rise to many interesting business opportunities. This trend is likely to change soon and established around the world businesses are recognizing this fact. Not only produced many mobile applications companies to grow revenue or improve your image. The increase in mobile applications seems to be changing the way businesses and consumers about the software. An example that says comes from Microsoft: new Windows 8 operating system has a "look and feel mobile" and software in the system programs are now referred to as "applications".

Therefore, if you want to learn how to develop Android applications where to start? It depends on your previous experience (if applicable) and the amount of time and money is willing to spend.

The most obvious route is doing all the programming yourself. To do this, you need knowledge of Java programming language and the Android Software Development Kit. If you have never programmed before, you will have to learn a lot about topics such as orientation objects, programming and work with the tools. This is the long and hard road to become a developer of applications... However, if you want to succeed in its first making some applications, it can be very satisfying and will have gained much useful knowledge!

If you don't know how to set up and does not want to learn how to write Android applications then, fortunately, there are other options. Several software products should be the application for you. Most of them is online applications that use templates and "assistants". A limitation of this approach is that you don't have much control over the outcome as it would to do any programming yourself. Some of these manufacturers of application are free, others offer a subscription service or payment.

If creation of the application software does not meet their needs, a third way is to hire freelance or a company to do in developing countries. If you're a fan of individual or a small business, this may seem intimidating and expensive. However, using a resource such as oDesk now have access to many cheap freelancers who live outside North America and Europe. Many are very capable in their work, to develop the application in this way do not have that much cost to everyone.

Personally, I started trying to do all the programming myself. I could not find a manufacturer of on-line application that suits my needs and I don't want to spend much money. However, although it had a little coding experience, I am not a developer by profession. So when a relatively simple programming problem raised head, I stick.

It didn't cost me much money (about $100) and I was able to get the application to market much faster than if I had done everything myself. AT&T LG Optimus G getting an Easter update

A quick heads up for you owners of the AT&T LG Optimus G -- there's a software update rolling out today. As reported in our Optimus G Fourms, you'll still be on Android 4.0.4 (build IMM76L), and you'll now have software version E97011c. Other than that, we can't quite tell you what's changed. 

So the wait continues for some Jelly Bean love for the AT&T Optimus G, but some update is better than no update.
